CLS Giving Opportunities

For Virginia Tech to have a significant impact on the training of future generations of leaders, it must attract and retain talented and diverse students and faculty. The Center for Leadership Studies seeks to raise $7.5 million over three years for scholarships ($2 million), professorships ($2 million), and program enrichment ($3.5 million).

General information about giving to Virginia Tech.

Endowed Scholarships and Fellowships Wall in PamplinEndowed scholarships and fellowships: From $25,000
The university seeks undergraduate and graduate students with leadership experience; value systems that reflect an appreciation for integrity, ethical conduct, and hard work; and outstanding academic credentials. Offering adequate financial assistance will help us recruit and retain the best and brightest students.

Endowed Professorships: From $250,000
One of the best ways that an institution can attract or retain outstanding teachers and researchers is through endowed professorships. A total of $2 million in endowed professorships would allow the center to attract or retain at least eight scholars in leadership or entrepreneurial studies and to hire a director for the center.

The income from the endowments will be used as a salary supplement, enhancing offers to outstanding faculty members who could be recruited by many other universities. Virginia's Eminent Scholars Program will match the income from any additional gifts made to the existing endowments, increasing the impact of the professorships.

Endowed Program Enrichment
Funding is needed to support some of the existing programs as well as new initiatives throughout the university. The $3.5 million endowment will provide approximately $140,000 annually to be used at the discretion of the center director for leadership development initiatives.
