Biography
Michael K. Badawy (New York University) holds a Ph.D. degree with honors from New York University. He is professor of management of technology and strategic management and was trained and educated under Professors Edwards Deming and Peter Drucker. Professor Drucker served as his doctoral dissertation advisor. He is internationally recognized for his research and writing, which focuses on all aspects of technology and innovation management, intellectrual capital and knowledge management, entrepreneurial leadership, R&D management, and engineering management.
Dr. Badawy is the founding dditor-in-dhief of the Journal of Engineering and Technology Management (JET-M) - an international scholarly refereed research journal published by Elsevier. He is the author of two books and over 250 journal articles. His appointment as the editor-in-chief for two book series resulted in 28 published books. Several articles and his book Developing Managerial Skills in Engineers and Scientists were translated into Jjapanese ,Chinese, Korean, and Spanish. Additionally, this book was selected by the IEEE for candidates preparing for certification examination. His article Technology Management Education: Alternative Models published in California Management Review was reprinted in several publications providing a road map for international graduate curricula.
Service to editorial boards include The Academiy of Management Review, IEEE Transaction on Engineering Management, and The Academy of Management Executive. He also served in numerous leadership positions on national and international professional organizations. He made major prsentations to the Academy of Management Board of Governors. In addition, he spearheaded the establishment of the Technology and Innovation Management Division and was later elected as the national chairman. He also served as chairman of the Management Education and Development Division. He received numerous distinguished leadership and outstanding teaching and service awards.
He is frequently invited to keynote-speak in international and national research undertakings. This includes a "six-member national board" to author the Fiftieth Golden Anniversary issue of Research and Technology Management. Additionally, he was invited to a select 10-member taskforce at the National Science Foundation to develop a national research agenda for the management of technology in the USA. He received the Korea Technology Medal of Honor from the Korea Industrial Technology Association (KITA) and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). His work has been featured in the Best of Business magazine, Forbes, Engineering Times, the Wall Streeet Journal, the New york Times, the Chicago Tribune, Inside R&D, and the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) publications.
