Biography
Trish Boyles is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department
of Management. She has a B.A. in Philosophy and a B.A. in English
Literature from Appalachian State University,
and received her M.B.A. from Western Carolina
University. Her
work experience spans a variety of job types
and industries including non-profit program management, web design
and development, and
business brokerage. Her current research interests
are grounded in sociological and strategic management approaches to
organizations and include understanding how firm and institutional
structures affect organizational members and their interpersonal relationships,
and in turn how that effect on people influences organizational effectiveness.
More specifically, her recent focus is on understanding
how differentiated human resource (HR) systems affect intra-firm social
relations, knowledge and information exchange, and firm performance.
Additionally, she is interested in macro-oriented approaches to analyzing
the workplace diversity component of HR systems and its impact on the
employees that represent the historically marginalized social groups
organizational diversity initiatives are designed to serve.
