Biography

Reed B. Kennedy is an instructor in the Management Department, where he teaches Applied Small Business Consulting and Business Policy and Strategy. He began his career as a naval officer, serving as the missile officer on a ship for 3 years, and for 2 years taught naval professional courses at the U. S. Naval Academy. His primary career has been in healthcare administration, where he served in senior executive roles in various hospitals for over 20 years, including 3 years in a mission hospital in Colombia, South America. He has worked for 5 years as a business consultant and counselor for the Small Business Development Center for the New River Valley at Radford University. As a business owner, he oversees the operations of an assisted living facility for mentally handicapped in Roanoke. His education includes a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and a Masters of Healthcare Administration from Medical College of Virginia / Virginia Commonwealth University. At Virginia Tech he serves as the Director of the Small Business Institute, Faculty Advisor for ELITE Business Club, Faculty Initiate for Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity, and was selected as Faculty of the Semester by the Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity. His community service includes serving on the Board of Directors for the Community Foundation of the New River Valley, where he has chaired the Nominating Committee, President and other officer positions of his Rotary Club, U. S. Naval Academy Information Officer for the region, and active member and teacher in his local church.
