Biography
Robert M. Madigan (Ph.D., Michigan State University ) is Associate Professor Emeritus of management. His teaching areas include total quality management as well as graduate and undergraduate courses in human resource management. While his management experience and academic interests encompass most areas of human resource management, his primary research activities have been in the areas of employee selection, compensation, and work team effectiveness. His work has been published in a number of journals including the Journal of Applied Psychology, Academy of Management Journal, Public Personnel Management, and Personnel Psychology.
Dr. Madigan joined the Pamplin Faculty in 1981 as an assistant professor in the management department where he was named associate professor in 1987. In 1988-89, he served as interim Associate Vice President for Personnel for the University. Prior to joining Virginia Tech, he held professional and management positions in human resource management in the Dow Chemical Company in Midland, Michigan; Whirlpool Corporation in Benton Harbor, Michigan; and the Midrex Corporation in Charlotte, North Carolina. Dr. Madigan has also served private and public sector organizations as a trainer and consultant on human resource management issues and programs.
